Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory - The only Department of Energy National Laboratory dedicated to the development of fusion energy science. Includes plasma physics research (Tokamuk Fusion Test Reactor); modeling, laboratory testing. Graduate and science education programs for students and teachers. Grades 9 and up.
University of Illinois Plasma Material Interaction Group - Fusion research; modeling, plasma processing of semiconductors; recent published work; fusion research links; on-line journals; semi-conductor links. Grades 9 and up.
California Energy Commission's Energy Quest - Maze for the younger set to learn about energy; contains science projects and experiments; stories; contests; etc. Grades 4-8.
University of Missouri Rolla American Nuclear Society Q & A's about Nuclear Energy - Answers to most frequently asked questions about nuclear energy from fuel-to-waste.
Todd's Atomic - Comprehensive compilation of nuclear information, both peaceful uses (generation of electricity and medical) as well as nuclear weapons.
University of Wisconsin Nuclear Research Reactor - Interesting look at a nuclear research power plant that produces radioactive isotopes and performs other irradiation services and how they differ from commercial nuclear power plants; information on how to perform neutron activation analysis. Grades 6 and up.
Mad Scientist Network (Ask a Scientist) - Web site where all students (or interested persons) can ask a scientist help/information on many scientific areas. Contains "The Visible Human".
Ask a Scientist Argonne National Laboratory - Forum where students and teachers can ask questions about science, math and computer science. Scientists from all over the world volunteer in responding to questions.

Uranium Information Center Melbourne, Australia - Information about Australia's uranium industry; data on uranium; the nuclear fuel cycle, radioactive waste management; world-wide reactor info (grades 4-12); various nuclear issues briefing papers (grades 9 and up.)
Space Physics at National Space Science Data Center - Directory designed to help you find space physics data. They do not provide data, just the listings of links to other data servers around the world. Grades 9 and up.
Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) - Nuclear power group brochure contains info on projects EPRI is conducting on nuclear power plant improvements.
Society of Nuclear Medicine (SNM)- Info about history of nuclear medicine and today's nuclear medicine highlights.
DOE Environmental Management (EM) - Time line of nuclear age; soda bottle hydrology class project; clean up of weapons production waste; low-level waste; copy of "EIS on Propsed Nuclear Weapons Nonproliferation Policy Concerning Foriegn Research Reactor Spent Nuclear Fuel".
Environmental Management Program- The INEEL's Environmental Management (EM) Program is responsible for managing a variety of radioactive and hazardous wastes that originated on- and off-site while conducting nuclear research and operations. Most of these wastes, and the environmental contamination that resulted from their handling, are a legacy of the Cold War. The EM program is treating, storing, and disposing of a variety of waste streams, cleaning up the environment, removing unneeded facilities, and preparing for the removal of DOE's inventory of spent nuclear fuel. This program is using the INEEL's challenges to solve problems for the INEEL and find solutions that also benefit DOE and the nation.

Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) - Time line history of ANL including several educational short stories.
Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNL) -Covers research subjects: biology, chemistry, energy research, environmental science health ( nuclear medical technology), national security and nuclear research.
CIA Fact Book - 1997 fact book contains details about governments, industries, size, economic statistics, etc. for all countries in the world.

Brookhaven National Laboratory's (BNL) Department of Advanced Technology - Information on engineering, radiological sciences, environmental & waste technology and the National Nuclear Data Center - provides info in fields of low & medium energy physics. Grades 9 and up.
National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Cassini Mission - Complete details (including many pictures & graphics) regarding the Cassini Mission to Saturn. Includes some detail on DOE's Radioisotope Thermoelectric Generators (RTGs).
Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) - General nuclear power information; statistics, history, radioisotopes, TMI, Chernobyl, space press releases, fact sheets and issue briefs.
Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL)'s Physics Division - Research in nuclear and atomic physics; concerned with studies of the properties of matter at the atomic, nuclear and sub-nuclear level. Grades 9 and up.
National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) - Renewable energy fact sheets including an overview of NREL.
International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)- Profile of Agency; listing of member countries; description of facilities and Agency's scientific and technical programs; fact sheets; current nuclear information; nuclear safety; nuclear waste, etc.
White House - Info on President and VP; other Federal Agencies; tours; virtual library; commonly requested Federal services, etc.

Depleted UF6 Programmatic Environmental Impact (PEIS) Statement - Online repository for DOE's PEIS for long-term management of depleted uranium hexafluoride (UF6), a product of the uranium enrichment process.
Ernest Orlando Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory's Contemporary Physics Education Project (CPEP) - CPEC is a non-profit organization of teachers, educators, and physicists from around the world. This page has charts, brochures, classroom activities including "The particle Adventure", an interactive tour of the inner workings of the atom, and "Fusion-Physical of a Fundamental Energy Source", an online interactive course. Grade 6 and up.
USEC, Inc. (Formerly U.S. Enrichment Corporation) - Contains info on enrichment of natural uranium into fuel for commercial nuclear power plants; U.S./Russia agreement to buy converted HEU into LEW from Russia for commercial nuclear power plant fuel; Pudacha, Kentucky and Portsmouth, Ohio sites; Atomic Laser Isotope Separation (AVLIS).
Westinghouse Corporation - Under New Plant Projects there is information on the newly designed AP600 nuclear power plant; in the Publication section there several really good publications for a nominal fee.
General Electric - (Nuclear) - Information on GE's nuclear reactor program and the newly designed and certified Advanced Boiling Water Reactor (ABWR) design.
DOE National Transportation Program (NTP)- NTP "Items in the News" that highlights recent transportation and packaging activities; brochure titled, Transporting Radioactive Materials Safely; update on DOE transportation fact sheets. |
